Sunflowers and Poppies Room
Your child will be aged three – four years and qualify for the free nursery provision. Please see fees and charges for details of when your child is eligible. Children may be funded for 9-30 hours per week and can take these hours flexibly over mornings, afternoons or block them together for an all day session. Some sessions will be more popular than others and availability of certain sessions may be affected because of this. Please speak to a member of staff regarding funding, session times and how the provision can be apportioned.
Key person - The key person is responsible for keeping the development profiles of their key children up-to-date and works closely with parents and children to ensure children's needs are met.
Joining a room base is a recognised significant step for your child. We hope that we can make this as relaxed and happy as possible. Both you and your child are important to us and you are welcome to talk to the staff at any time.
Sunflower & Poppy Room children are an important part of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Your child now has access to Early Years Education with wrap-around care (Educare) enabling free flow access between indoor/outdoor environments. Your child’s progress will be monitored and recorded individually in the form of a 'Learning Journey'.
Learning journey Tapestry- Your child's achievements and development is recorded on our online Learning Journey (Tapestry). Each parent will be given an individual log in code which they can access via their email account; we encourage parents to contribute and comment on the observations which we share with you.
Daily information is shared verbally with parents/ carers at the end of each session. Sunflower Room can have up to 32 children at any one time. Poppy Room can have have up to 26 children at any one time. We maintain child care ratios of 1:8 (1 adult for every 8 children) where possible to ensure your child has the best possible learning experience.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is implemented by two full-time teachers, who also manage a transition process with Reception Class teachers in school. The areas of learning and development consist of 3 prime areas and 4 specific areas. The prime areas cover the knowledge and skills which are the foundations for children's school readiness and future progress and which are applied and reinforced by the specific areas.
Trips/events are organised throughout the year for Sunflower & Poppy Room children which require parent helpers. The nursery adopts an appropriate adult: child ratio on all outings (this will not exceed 1:4)
